From Pre-Med to Digital Media: Deepa's Journey to Becoming a Director of Social Media

In the first episode of Beyond Her Campus: Celebrating 15 Years, host and Her Campus Community Director Julianne Skrivan sits down with Deepa Lakshmin, an alumna of Her Campus at the University of Pennsylvania and the current Director of Social Media at Lonely Planet. 

Deepa reflects on her academic journey and the experience of transitioning from pre-med to clinical psychology before embracing her passion for writing and digital media. She shares how Her Campus provided an outlet for her writing during college, allowing her to explore journalism in new ways as the digital media industry evolved and ultimately decide to pursue it as a career. With honest insights into her career progression, Deepa’s story is both inspiring and educational for students and young professionals navigating their own career paths.
